Google Voice among the first apps to support Android's new image picker

Google introduced a new image picker for Android with the release of Android 13, which is also accessible on older versions of the operating system. Google Voice now supports the new photo picker thanks to a recent update. Google first declared this new system-wide photo picker with the first Android 13 preview, and while it did work with older versions of Android, apps must be updated to use it. Google claimed that the new picker would "protect users' photo and video privacy" by allowing apps to use it instead of requiring permission to view a user's photos or videos. Google Voice is among the first apps to support Android's new image picker. To date, however, almost no apps have implemented the new photo picker. Google Voice for Android is ditching its built-in photo picker in favor of the one Google has built for Android as a whole, in what appears to be a server-side update. When sending a message in Google Voice, the gallery icon is used to access the system-wide photo picker, and there is now a camera icon that specifies taking a photo to the native camera app.
