Google unveils AI enhancements to Search and Maps (Image credit- AI News)
Less than two days remain until Google’s I/O event, and as per reports, may have just given away some of the key AI-related advancements that will be unveiled there.
PaLM 2, a new large language model (LLM) that Google defines as its “most recent and advanced,” will be a significant component of the project, according to the reports.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Google demonstrate some of these capabilities onstage given that the LLM has reportedly conducted “a broad range of coding and math tests as well as creative writing tests and analysis,” according to the reports. (The first PaLM was revealed in April 2022) This was many months prior to the current AI boom, which was sparked by programs like ChatGPT.
According to the reports, Google will also reveal “generative experiences” for search and Bard, the AI-powered chatbot it tested out in March, including the addition of Korean and Japanese to Bard’s language support. Bard is currently only accessible in the US and the UK.
According to the reports, Google will also disclose further AI capabilities aimed at the workspace, including “discussing template generation in Sheets and image generation in its Slides and Meet products.” We’ll have to wait and watch if the firm will expand the availability of the AI features for Gmail and Docs after they were initially deployed with “trusted testers,” as they stated in March.
Google didn’t respond right away when asked for comment. However, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise if the business makes a big AI splash at Google I/O.
Google recently put AI front and center with practically everything it does and even made significant organizational changes meant to further advance its AI work in response to the rise of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s own aggressive AI initiatives.

But I/O won’t only be about AI. The Pixel Fold has already been announced by the firm, and more information will be revealed at the event.
The Pixel Tablet was mentioned in a number of now-deleted Amazon listings, which gave me the impression that it would be present at the event. And the Pixel 7A has been leaking for weeks, including a hands-on back in March.
