Google Workspace transition message was a bug. "We are working on fixing the issue.": Official

A new transition message began popping up in the Google Admin console recently for grandfathered "Legacy G Suite" users. The message, which appeared in people's accounts, reads: "The transition to Google Workspace has begun." This announcement came after legacy G Suite users went through a contentious transition last year when Google initially suggested shutting down their accounts if they didn't start paying but was eventually convinced not to do so. A Google spokesperson tells us the message was caused by "a bug that surfaced an old banner from earlier in the transition process last year, and our team is currently working to remove it." At this time, there are no new changes to the product, and those who previously purchased it for personal use are not expected to take any further action. With this message, some people have raised questions about its origin on Reddit, but it's just a bug, which is great because “Legacy G Suite” users have already been through enough. Today, this service is known as "Google Workspace," but due to Google's frequent rebranding, it was originally titled "Google Apps for your Domain," then "Google Apps," and finally "G Suite." Workspace From 2006 to 2012, Google's custom domain service was not always paid for and was not exclusively targeted at businesses; it was even offered to families as a way for everyone to have similar email addresses. Some people did, which means they are now getting a paid service for free. These long-term users were targeted last year by Google's accounting department, which threatened to sue them if they didn't begin paying a business rate for the formerly free but not necessarily business, accounts. After a public outcry, Google eventually left these legacy G Suite accounts alone after the users were forced to prove they were used for "non-business" purposes. After that, everything was settled. Legacy G Suite users are excluded from "Workspace," a paid service. Google Upgrades Workspace Individual Plan Even though Google claims it's an error that users can see this message, following the prompt would actually lead to another error message about "Google Workspace for personal use,” which is a product that does not exist. The enterprise version of Workspace has levels such as "Business Starter,” and grandfathered users are on "Legacy G Suite," but the personal version of Workspace is not. According to some sources, this was all the beta branding for the original plan last year, and somehow it was released yesterday. Google Workspace for personal use would be a fantastic product for the company to market because we've criticized Apple and Microsoft for selling custom domain email services to consumers at a fair price, while Google is limited to offering business email at much higher prices. The fact that these personal users have nowhere to go inside Google is a big part of the legacy G Suite problem.
