Police in New Mexico are investigating the death of a lady who was allegedly slain with a three-foot sword by her ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend. Police said Grace Jennings, 21, passed away after being stabbed in the garage where the couple lived. According to the Daily Mail, Kiara McCulley, 19, and her boyfriend Isaac Apodaca were charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death. Police were alerted by Apodaca's mother to the incident in the 5000 block of Jaguar Drive on Saturday, October 29, at around 2 pm, where McCulley is reportedly killing a woman in the garage, according to a criminal complaint that Santa Fe New Mexican acquired. In the garage, Jennings' body and a "bloody sword" were both found. Both "injuries consistent with attempts to decapitate" and "multiple injuries consistent with being slashed or stabbed with a sharp object" were found on her body. Aaron Ortiz of the Santa Fe Police Department remarked to the Santa Fe New Mexican: "We did find a sword, and it is made of metal. Regarding its origin, I am unable to provide further details because that is still being looked into." According to the report, when authorities saw McCulley leaving the scene in the backyard, he was apprehended together with Apodaca, who had also called the police to report the murder. Apodaca claimed that after alerting his mother, he immediately hurried to make a 911 call. Later, McCulley told police that she was unable to remember killing Jennings because of an undiagnosed multiple personality condition. According to her complaint statement, which was published by Daily Mail, "McCulley indicated she was half hoping Jennings was dead but could not remember what had happened to her." Later, it was discovered that Jennings had been simultaneously romantically involved with McCulley and Apodaca. Instead of reporting his suspected involvement to the authorities, Apodaca informed detectives that McCulley had been preparing to murder his ex-girlfriend for years. But on Saturday, when he looked at his phone, the truth came out, according to a local media source. Text messages between Apodaca and McCulley discussing how to kill the 21-year-old as she slept were discovered by police. The message said Mr. Apodaca and [McCulley] would "clean up the mess" by using hydrogen peroxide and an ice washer to get it out, according to the complaint. She acknowledged having daydreamed about murdering Jennings. When Jennings passed away, her family acknowledged their astonishment and that the "community suffered an unspeakable loss." Kacey Jennings, a relative, called Jennings "the definition of beautiful." Grace is the epitome of beauty, she commented on Facebook, sharing her opinions. We are granted grace freely even if we don't deserve it. I adore Grace so much. Grace, our niece, was snatched from everyone who knew and loved her over the weekend. I ask that you remember our family in your prayers. My husband, his sisters, our other nieces and nephews, her meemaw and peepaw, and her Uncle Danny in particular. A GoFundMe has been established to cover burial expenses and provide assistance to the mother of the 21-year-old during this incredibly trying time. On Tuesday, November 2, the Santa Fe District Attorney's office filed a petition asking for the custody of McCulley and Apodaca pending trial. A hearing date has not yet been made public.
