Reports suggested that Harley was planning to import a Chinese-made bike, but the truth is less concerning. The Harley-Davidson X350 RA will be brought in for dealership training schools, but it won’t be available for sale to customers. Building motorcycles in the US is costly, and the X350 is a beginner-friendly motorcycle with Harley styling that was built in China by a joint-venture between Harley-Davidson and Qianjiang, a Chinese conglomerate that owns Benelli and is owned by Geely, parent company of Volvo and Polestar. The X350 uses a 353-cc parallel-twin engine developed by Qianjiang, which is used in various QJMotor and Benelli models. When Cycle World published evidence that suggested Harley-Davidson was importing a made-in-China motorcycle to the US, many fans of the iconic American motorcycle brand became worried. More recently, Cycle World found regulatory documents from the California Air Resource Board and NHTSA, which indicated that Harley-Davidson was seeking certification to import the Chinese-made X350 and a larger-displacement X500 variant to the US. Jalopnik reached out to Harley-Davidson to inquire about the paperwork, and the motorcycle manufacturer stated that the X350 RA would be imported to the US for use in the Harley Davidson Riding Academy, a training course intended for first-time riders hosted by the company. The X350 RA will not be sold in US dealerships, according to Harley-Davidson. The regulatory documents are only what is required to bring these beginner-friendly bikes to the US. While this means that Harley-Davidson will not be selling a Chinese-built motorcycle on US shores anytime soon, it doesn't necessarily mean that they never will. For now, though, there is no cause for alarm. If the company does decide to sell the X350 or X500 in the US, it will join an increasing number of excellent small-displacement motorcycles that are ideal for novice riders. source: Motorcycles.news   Building motorcycles in the US has become expensive, and this presents a challenge for Harley-Davidson in 2023. However, the company has a plan to remain viable, and it doesn't involve the X350. The motorcycle manufacturer is expected to release its first all-electric motorcycle, the LiveWire, in 2022. The company has invested in research and development, creating a new division called LiveWire that is dedicated to electric motorcycles. Harley-Davidson has also announced its intention to expand its offerings to include adventure touring motorcycles, and it has developed a new engine platform called the Revolution Max that will be used in the upcoming Pan America adventure touring motorcycle. Also read: Harley Davidson declares that it will soon go electric only Harley-Davidson will not be importing the X350 for sale in US dealerships. Instead, the X350 RA will only be brought in for dealership training schools. The regulatory documents that indicated otherwise were only required to bring these beginner-friendly bikes to the US. While this news may disappoint some Harley enthusiasts, the motorcycle manufacturer is investing in research and development, creating a new division called LiveWire that is dedicated to electric motorcycles.
