For the third weekend in a row, the patriotic rescue film Homecoming ruled the box office in mainland China. The first full week following the National Day vacation break, also known as the "Golden Week," saw little change in the overall figures. Data from consultancy and research firm Artisan Gateway show that "Homecoming" made $12.1 million (RMB85.6 million) from Friday to Sunday. As a result, the movie received a 64% share of the weekend domestic total. As a result, it outperformed the second-placed movie, "Give Me Five," which came out on September 9, 2022, by a wide margin. Only $1.9 million was made during the weekend for "Give Me Five," giving it a six-week total of $63.8 million. Homecoming Wins the Chinese Box Office for a Third Consecutive Weekend "Ordinary Hero," which, like "Homecoming," had been released in time for the National Day celebrations, took third place. The most recent weekend saw revenue of $1.8 million, bringing the three-week total to $23.0 million. With RMB5 million (about $700,000), the Chinese animation film "New Gods: Yang Jian," which won't be released until August 19, 2022, took fourth place. Its revenue after nine weeks on the market is $76.6 million. The 16-day cumulative gross for "New Happy Dad and Son 5: My Alien Friend," another instalment in the animation franchise, was RMB4.2 million ($600,000). China's box office continues to experience severe declines and struggles with numerous issues. These include the dearth of noteworthy new releases, both domestically and internationally; the weak economy, which is burdened by high young unemployment and a housing market problem; and the continued COVID-zero policy, which results in lockdowns and mass testing during free time. According to local accounts, a number of forms of entertainment were put on hold while the president spoke. According to Artisan Gateway, China's year-to-date box office is currently $3.88 billion, which is almost 33% less than 2021 levels. The numbers, however, appear worse in monetary terms than they do when expressed in local currency or admissions values. That is as a result of the Renminbi's (or Chinese Yuan's) decline in value against the dollar over the previous 12 months. Prior to one year, one dollar was equivalent to 6.44 RMB. 1 USD = 7.20 RMB at the moment.
