How Short Video Apps Help Blue-Collar Workers in China Find Jobs?

Chinese short video stream applications have developed into a surprising resource for people looking for blue-collar jobs. A recent study by Kuaishou Technology, the second-largest short video platform in the country, reports indicated that short video applications swiftly surpass other job search strategies for China's 400 million blue-collar workers. Blue-collar workers' favorite video app Kuaishou, which is akin to TikTok, introduced Kwai Recruitment in January, a section dedicated to live recruitment streams. Kuaishou had 250 million monthly active users by the second quarter of 2022. Recruitment agents who have made the switch to live streaming post job listings for babysitters, delivery drivers, package handlers, labourers for rabbit farms, and other positions on its job channels. Approximately 70% of all employees in the country's industrial and service sectors are classified as blue-collar, with the bulk of them earning between 5,000 and 8,000 yuan per month, according to a poll issued this week. How Chinese Workers Use Short Stream Video Apps to Find Jobs?

Short films have quickly outpaced conventional recruitment websites and apps to fall behind "interpersonal introductions," which are favoured by more than 67.6 percent of Chinese blue-collar workers, according to South China Morning Post. Recruitment companies typically use offline job fairs, job portals, or WeChat ads to fill positions in factories and farms. However, agencies now assert that using live streaming to connect with unskilled labour is more economical. Around 250 million blue-collar employees actively use Kuaishou, one of China's most well-known short video apps, each month. In one instance, Liu Chao, a well-known Kuaishou influencer, helped 14,000 workers find employment over the course of two years by sharing recruiting information. Nearly 200 million workers in China, according to official figures, either have flexible work hours or don't have long-term employment contracts. The country also has about 300 million migrant workers, or those who accept jobs outside of their hometowns. The study also found that older workers are gradually being replaced by Chinese millennials.

What Is the Chinese Market for Short Stream Video Apps?

Short-form video applications, which allow users to create material in bursts of 15 and 60 seconds, reportedly reached China in early 2017 and soon made a name for themselves as viable entertainment options. In China, livestreaming first became popular as a kind of entertainment. Nevertheless, it has recently gotten involved in every facet of daily life, including retail, education, matchmaking, and most recently, hiring. Now that short video and job-hunting applications have embraced live streaming, it is becoming more common in the blue-collar labour market, where businesses must hire numerous people with little training or prior experience.
