How the iPhone 14 Plus became one of the biggest tech failures in 2022

The iPhone 14 Plus has the unfortunate distinction of having the worst commercial performance of all the iPhones released this year. Many thought it was a little strange. One of Apple's finest iPhones to date was the iPhone 14 Plus. It came with the most recent version of iOS, a chipset that was faster than most Android phones, a sizable screen, and the best battery life you'd find in a smartphone. It's not selling as well as anticipated considering all those prizes. In fact, according to certain rumours, Apple has reduced the production of the iPhone 14 Plus in order to refocus on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Although it is oversimplified to label the iPhone 14 Plus a failure, it has earned a spot on our list of the worst iPhones ever. It's also helpful to consider the potential causes of the underperformance. Apple has acted as its own worst enemy in this situation.

The iPhone 14 Plus is way too expensive

The iPhone 14 Plus is a pretty pricey phone, as I've already mentioned in a bit more detail. All iPhones are undoubtedly pricey, but there's something about $1,000 that inspires reflection. Is this function required? Is it the one? What alternatives do I have? When looking for items in the middle of the spectrum, these queries are largely irrelevant. However, it starts to get a little more interesting when you're spending ridiculous amounts of money on a phone. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is alluring for a little more money. The iPhone 13 Pro Max can be purchased for a bit less. Apple is not the only player in this market; Google's superb Pixel 7 Pro is less expensive than the Apple 14 Plus and has a superior camera and display.

A redundancy problem

In comparison to the less expensive iPhone 13, Apple's iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have excellent cameras, fast refresh rates, and long-lasting batteries. The same is applied to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. This is due to the inherent similarities between the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus and the iPhone 13 series. There are many reasons to avoid the Plus and only a handful to choose it explicitly, especially given the older phones' lower prices. Consider the large screen as an illustration. Even its lauded battery life is about equivalent to the 13 Pro Max's 120Hz display, which is far superior to it at just 60Hz. We may choose the 12 Pro Max instead, which has a less powerful processor but superior build quality and an additional camera. And it's a lot, a lot cheaper.
