How to Locate & View Chrome Extension-Installed Files?

It is crucial to understand how to locate and view the files installed by a Chrome extension. You can access files associated with an extension in two ways. The first method is to look at the actual files installed on your computer, or if an extension is no longer available on the Chrome Web Store. When you install extensions in Chrome, they are extracted into the C: Users[login name]AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefaultExtensions folder. The second method is to use an extension called Chrome extension source viewer, which allows you to view an extension's source code easily. To view an extension's contents, first find its ID and then open the corresponding folder. When you open the folder, you will see all of the images, Html, and JavaScript files that the extension uses. Chrome Extension-Installed Files

To view the source code of a specific file, right-click on it, select Open with, and then open it in Notepad. You can now view the source code for JS, HTML, and JSON files directly in Notepad. The Chrome extension source viewer is a Chrome Web Store extension that allows you to view the source code of any extension. If you want to back up the folder containing the installed extension, zip the folder named after the extension ID in C: Users[login name]AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefaultExtensions. When you select this menu option, the zip file containing the extension will be opened and the contents of the archive will be displayed, as shown below. You can view the contents of the various files by clicking on them from this interface. By clicking on the Download button, you can also download the extension's corresponding Zip file from the Chrome Web Store. This is especially useful when you want to create an archive of the most recent version of an extension available from the Chrome Web Store.
