Despite this, however, their screens are still somewhat small, especially if you're trying to text on the watchOS 9's microscopic keyboard. While speech-to-text can be used as a substitute to typing on the small display, users may not always find it handy. Fortunately, you can type in a text field on your Apple Watch using the keyboard on your iPhone. Follow the instructions below to use the keyboard on your iPhone to type on the Apple Watch.

Typing on watchOS the iOS keyboard

  • Ensure that both your Apple Watch and iPhone have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Start your iPhone's Settings application.
  • Visit the Notifications area.
  • Make sure the toggle for Apple Watch Keyboard is turned on by tapping on it.
  • Select the text area on your Apple Watch by clicking.
  • Unlock your iPhone by bringing it close to the smartwatch.
  • Start typing by tapping the Apple Watch Keyboard notification.
  • On watchOS, the text will be automatically and instantly transferred to the appropriate field.
  • When you're finished typing, click the Done button.
This useful function isn't intended to be used when you're just replying to a message. After all, it makes far more sense to just compose the response in the Messages application on your iPhone rather than sending it via the smartwatch's iOS keyboard.
