Despite the closure of the Google Stadia platform, the Stadia controller continues to thrive. With the shutdown of the platform on January 18th worldwide, the gamepad can no longer access Wi-Fi play through the servers. This means that the controller is now essentially a Bluetooth remote for your system of choice. However, this doesn’t mean that the controller is no longer useful. In fact, it can still be used as a Bluetooth controller for gaming on your PC or phone.

The Google Stadia controller is a highly sought-after device due to its high-quality build and design. The controller is a result of the company’s first foray into the world of remotes, and it has been largely successful. The design and build quality of the controller are similar to that of a PS4 controller and an Xbox Wireless controller. The D-pad is particularly impressive, providing a satisfying click and a good level of responsiveness. Additionally, the controller has a 3.5mm jack that allows for the use of some of the best wired gaming headsets.

Although Google Stadia is no longer available, the Google Stadia controller can still be used as a wireless or wired backup pad. You have until December 31st, 2023, to download the Bluetooth firmware on your Google Stadia controller. After this date, you’ll only be able to use it as a wired USB controller. To enable Bluetooth mode on your Google Stadia controller, you need to visit the Google Stadia controller firmware page and turn off Wi-Fi play. Next, connect your controller to your computer via a USB-C cable and allow the Google Chrome web browser to verify the controller. You can then unlock Bluetooth mode, which permanently disables Stadia Wi-Fi play. After that, download and install the firmware (ensure your controller has at least 30 minutes of battery life), and finally connect your Google Stadia controller to a compatible device.

The Google Stadia controller has been given another chance as a Bluetooth gamepad for other devices, and we’re thrilled to see that it still has some life left in it. Even though you can no longer purchase the controller in new condition, it is still a highly sought-after device on the second-hand market. The hardware is on sale at a steep price, and gamers are willing to pay for it due to its high quality and versatility.
