How to witness this weekend's historic ISS spacewalk?

Photo Credit: My Love UAE Making final preparations for a spacewalk at the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday, April 28 are NASA astronaut Steve Bowen and his United Arab Emirates colleague Sultan Alneyadi. Alneyadi will be the first Arab astronaut to do a spacewalk as he exits the International Space Station. Alneyadi tweeted earlier this month that "it is a great honor and responsibility to be chosen as the first Arab astronaut to undertake a spacewalk." He continued by saying that he was eager to represent his nation and carry on "the extraordinary journey started by generations of astronauts before me." Photo Credit: Twitter While his last spacewalk was 12 years ago while on a different mission, Bowen will be making his eighth spacewalk. The two men, who are shown here, as well as NASA astronaut Warren Hoburg and Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, arrived at the orbiting outpost on March 3. After leaving the station's Quest airlock, Bowen and Alneyadi will get to work getting ready for the upcoming installation of improved solar arrays on the station's starboard truss. According to NASA, two more arrays will be mounted on the previously-built platforms during upcoming spacewalks. Four of the new arrays have already been placed during previous spacewalks. Additionally, the astronauts will gather S-band antenna gear and return it to the ISS for maintenance.

How to prepare?

The live video will have footage from a variety of cameras, some of which will be linked to the astronauts themselves so you can see them working up close. The audio feeds from both the astronauts and their colleagues at Mission Control will also be included in the broadcast. Additionally, a NASA commentator will walk the audience through each step the astronauts are taking. Observe for some magnificent sights of Earth 250 miles down as well. How to see?

On Friday, April 28, at 7:45 a.m. ET, NASA will launch a live webcast that will chronicle the spacewalk. The actual spacewalk is expected to begin at 9:15 a.m. ET and last for around 6.5 hours. Bowen will wear a suit with red stripes for easy identification during the spacewalk, while Alneyadi will don an unmarked outfit. The spacewalk will be available to view via the player at the top of this page and on NASA's YouTube account, which will also have the same content.
