Hugh Jackman Will Be Seen as "Wolverine" in Deadpool 3 "Once More"

The merc with a mouth is back, and this time he's bringing back an X-Men franchise legend, with Hugh Jackman officially confirmed to reprise his role as Wolverine in the next Deadpool feature. In true Deadpool flair, a video posted by Reynolds' official Twitter account shows the actor slamming the character's portrayal in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After mentioning the mercenary's mouth being sewn shut and apologizing for missing D23, Reynolds concludes the video by asking Jackman if he'd like to reprise his role as Wolverine, to which the Australian actor says, "Yeah, sure." Jackman's comeback is a pleasant surprise for fans, as he had put down his claws following 2017's Logan. The actor has played Wolverine in films since 2000's X-Men, and Logan was widely seen as a fitting conclusion for both the character and Jackman's tenure. Regardless, fans of both characters will be able to see them square off on the big screen for the first time (ignoring the 2009 portrayal, of course).

Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on the film Free Guy and with Jackman on 2011's Real Steel, and will be released on September 6, 2024. This appears to be the start of Phase 6 of the MCU, as Phase 5 concludes in July 2024 with Thunderbolts.

It's Been 30 Years...

Surprisingly, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the characters' initial meeting in Wolverine #88. Since 1994, Deadpool and Wolverine have maintained an on-and-off enmity, with the mercenary firing a slew of bullets at their first meeting. Hugh Jackman

When X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released in theatres, fans of the duo were baffled by Deadpool's portrayal. Despite being played by Reynolds, the character was far more somber than fans were used to seeing from Deadpool. Reynolds, on the other hand, salvaged the character with 2016's Deadpool, with the character's solo excursion being appropriately chaotic, witty, and faithful to what fans understood from the comics.
