Iran-related drones have been spotted flying over Ukraine for a little more than a week already.
According to Andriana Arekhta, a junior sergeant in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the drones attacked her special forces unit that was engaged in combat near the southern city of Kherson. When the drones managed to get past the soldiers' defenses and drop explosives on their location, two tanks and the men inside were destroyed.
“It’s very difficult to see these drones on radars,” said Arekhta, who traveled to Washington, D.C., last week as part of a delegation of female Ukrainian soldiers. “It’s a huge problem.”
Russia has been using more Shahed and Mohajer combat drones that were acquired from Iran over the past week, with disastrous effects throughout Ukraine. While others bombed civilian facilities, especially in the port city of Odesa, others struck military installations, destroying tanks and armoured vehicles.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, announced in his nightly address on Friday that his nation's anti-aircraft troops had shot down more than a dozen drones in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk area and Odesa. They were identified by the Ukrainian Air Force as Shahed-136 kamikaze drones and Mohajer-6 reconnaissance and weapons drones.

However, an activist from Ukraine and three servicemen claimed in interviews that both combatants and civilians are seriously threatened by Iranian drones. As Kyiv seeks to take advantage of recent victories to reclaim as much land as it can before winter sets in, they said that their entrance on the battlefield made the need for the West to deliver extra sophisticated equipment even more important.
