According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Jared Leisek, the founder of the well-known YouTube volunteer search and rescue dive team Adventures with Purpose, has been detained for allegedly raping a minor in Utah more than three decades ago. According to jail records, Leisek, 47, was arrested on January 5 and lodged in the Sanpete County Jail on a single child rape charge. There is no information on bail available currently.

Details about the case

According to a criminal complaint submitted by the prosecution in early November 2022, Jared Leisek was between 16 and 17 years old when the alleged two rapes against a girl who was 9 and then 10 in 1992 occurred. For those unaware, there is no statute of limitations for rape in Utah. The second alleged rape, which allegedly took place at a grandparent's house, has also been eliminated from the revised paperwork. However, the reason for this is not readily apparent. In addition, prosecutors claimed that the girl and Leisek are cousins.

Moreover, the team made national headlines last summer when they located the body and vehicle of missing northern California teenager Keily Rodni. On another note, it is unknown if Leisek has pleaded guilty or not. Randall Richards, his lawyer, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
