Jim Jordan faces ire for saying training wouldn't have stopped Memphis cops from beating Tyre Nichols

After five Memphis police officers brutally beat Tyre Nichols to death, Jim Jordan, the head of the judiciary committee and a member of the monitoring and reform commission, asserted that no amount of training or modification could get rid of "bad apple policeman." Republican Jordan of Ohio's comments have caused him difficulty because the Internet doesn't seem to be too happy about them. Tyre Nichols, age 29, passed away on January 10 in a Memphis, Tennessee hospital, three days after being brutally assaulted by five Memphis Police Department officers during a traffic stop. Jordan promoted local government reform, suggesting that they might use measures to track "wandering cops." The five officers were fired from their jobs on Friday, January 20, and on Thursday, January 26, they allegedly were arrested and charged with Nichols' murder as well as kidnapping, assault, and misconduct in the line of duty. Jordan urged more training and a focus on the community level when asked by NBC anchor Chuck Todd about potential solutions to the issue of police violence in minority communities, according to Daily Mail. He said, "Well, I'm for the best training possible, But what I'm not for is what we saw there. I don't know that any training, any ban, there was no chokeholds used there. What they did there was just continue to beat Mr. Nichols. And so I don't know that that's the answer." He further added, "But, again, we'll look at what we think makes sense to help this, to make sure they have the proper training. But no amount of training's going to change what we saw in that video," as per the source outlet. He continued, "This is a law enforcement issue. You start getting the federal government involved in databases and federal licensing, that gets – because the federal government screws it up so many times, I think one of the items in the Democrat legislation a couple of years ago was some kind of federal registry, Well, then you get concerns is every complaint going to be there? Are they going to be just adjudicated complaints? How are we going to track this?" Jordan further said, "And, again, I don't think these five guys represent the vast, vast majority of law enforcement." The Ohio congressman said, "But I don't know that there's anything you can do to stop the kind of evil we saw in that video."
