A new virtual reality (VR) platform dubbed Kokomo has been unveiled by Canon, a firm well renowned for its hardware goods, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Live-action video on the platform allows for in-person conversations in a virtual setting, bringing 3D video calling to life, Interesting Engineering reports. One of Kokomo's co-creators, Jon Lorentz, claims that the platform was developed to give individuals a way to connect while confined to their homes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kokomo, according to Lorentz, "is a method to enable people to be there when they couldn't." Kokomo, a new virtual reality (VR) platform from Canon, aims to give users a more engaging and dynamic video calling experience than existing options like FaceTime or Zoom. With the help of basic tools like widely used consumer VR headsets, the technology allows individuals to interact face-to-face with live-action footage in a virtual setting. According to a press release, the platform also provides a variety of virtual settings, like a surf store and a mountain tea house, to improve the individualized video call experience. Within the next month, Canon intends to make the Kokomo headset available for purchase and update the Kokomo app with new locations, features, and capabilities. The business also intends to increase Canon camera compatibility. The platform will be on display by the company at CES 2023, which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 5 to 8.
