Lego Is Discontinuing Its Teaching Robots From Mindstorms

Lego is ending production of its Mindstorms kits, which allow users to construct robots out of Lego bricks, pins, beams, motors, gears, and other components and then program them using Lego's control hubs, as reported by fan blogs like Brick Fanatics and Brickset.  Since 1998, the products have been promoted as a simple solution for kids and adults to create and program robots. The business won't continue to offer its Mindstorms Robot Inventor kit after this year, but it isn't entirely done with the concept of instructional robotics kits. The firm has stated that it will support the different apps used to create and control Mindstorms robots on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Fire OS until "at least the end of 2024," which raises the possibility that there is a deadline for this support.  The robot control units won't necessarily turn into worthless bricks as a result, though. Although there are non-Lego open-source tools available for developing and uploading code to them, the absence of official tools may make things more challenging for novice or younger builders. Lego Is Discontinuing Its Teaching Robots From Mindstorms Lego will have the Mindstorms team working on other aspects of the company, according to the statement made by Brickset, though it didn't specify what they would be doing.  For those who have been paying attention, the decision isn't entirely unexpected: when the firm decommissioned its Mindstorms EV3 system last year, it recommended its Lego Education Spike kit to consumers rather than the Mindstorms Robot Inventor kit that was also available.  The latter is the sole item marked as "temporarily out of stock" on Lego's website's Mindstorms page right now. However, Lego claims that the Spike Prime kit is still on the market and that platform is still its current strategy for promoting the "build and code" concept.
