Luxury One of the quickest automobile manufacturers in the world is the British supercar manufacturer McLaren. But once you see its most recent project with stalwart audio partner Bowers & Wilkins — the Px8 McLaren Edition headphones, which went on sale today and cost $799 — watch how quickly your money disappears from your wallet.
The McLaren Edition is a "specially designed" variation of B&W's premium flagship Px8 wireless headphones. It is decked out with a "Galvanic”' gray metallic finish and, most notably, a "Papaya" orange ring around each ear cup and matching fabric covers inside, a nod to the company's founder Bruce McLaren's early racing cars.
The limited-edition headphones were created to commemorate the two companies' collaboration, which dates back to 2015 when B&W started creating audio systems for McLaren's vehicles, as well as the recent introduction of McLaren's ridiculous Artura hybrid supercar, which is of course equipped with B&W audio. The two businesses reaffirmed their commitment to one another earlier this year, signing a new multi year agreement that made B&W the "Official Audio Partner" of McLaren.

The Px8 McLaren Edition headphones are merely a repackaged version of their superb Px8 cans ($699), which we reviewed back in November, save from the stylish McLaren stylings. It's not a negative thing, though. They have some of the best active noise cancellation (ANC) in the industry, a respectable 30-hour battery life, and great sounding 40mm Carbon Cone drivers that are precisely angled to maintain a constant distance from your ears.
The Px8 are equipped with Qualcomm's aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec technology and are designed for high-quality audio playback as well. However, you will need a suitable phone; we apologize to iPhone owners. The Px8's direct-digital USB-C connection for lossless 24-bit music or a DAC (digital audio converter) and the supplied 3.5mm-to-USB cable if you use an iPhone are the only ways to fully experience what these over-ear headphones are capable of.

The Bowers & Wilkins Music App may also be used to configure, fine-tune, and personalize the B&W Px8 McLaren edition headphones.

In a statement to the media, Dan Shepherd, B&W's Vice President of Licensing & Partnerships, said, "We are incredibly proud of our long-standing connection with McLaren Automotive, which is rooted in a common commitment to lead in performance." The Px8 McLaren Edition honors this collaboration by bringing McLaren's DNA and our industry-leading audio performance outside of the car.
Good for you if you were fortunate enough to have personally experienced a B&W McLaren automobile audio system while hopefully speeding along a deserted country road. If not, spending $800 on these headphones might be your only other option. They are available in a few shops, on B&W's website, and at the McLaren online store.
