Meta finally discontinues Messenger Lite on Android

Messenger Lite has served people long for streamlined communication with a minimalist approach. The lightweight app has been a digital haven for people while providing fundamental features to keep them engaged in convenient communications. However, the digital world is quite known for sudden changes and developments.
As per Reddit reports, this smaller version of the giant Messenger app is no longer available on the Play Store. The persisting users with Messenger Lite have reported getting notifications pushing them towards the Facebook Lite app. However this new app comes with some difficulties. It lacks the highly sought-after calling feature, and some users have reported its messaging system to be a bit heavy, with sent messages sometimes being pending in the prompt box.

Meta confirmed the shutdown of this renowned app in a statement to TechCrunch. “Starting August 21, people using the Messenger Lite app for Android will be directed to Messenger or FB Lite to send and receive messages on Messenger,” a Meta spokesperson said.
This sudden closure of the app hasn’t gone down well with the users and they have raised their concerns over the notifications regarding the shutdown announcement. However, users have a lot of speculations over it

This represents just one of the noteworthy alterations being introduced by Meta to its messaging platforms. Meta has recently disclosed its intentions to discontinue SMS functionality in Messenger by September 28, 2023. With the initial inclusion of SMS support in 2012, followed by its removal in 2013 and subsequent reintroduction in 2016. This initiative adds another layer of intricacy to Messenger's intricate past.
