When it comes to the current bill, which it would add to its must-pass priorities for the year's national security legislation, Meta is not holding back in its threats to the US Congress. In response to the government's action, the Big Tech corporation threatened to withdraw Facebook News. Even the general public won't be able to access it online because of the meta. The US Congress and Meta are currently playing a game of chess, with each move being carefully watched by both sides as they decide how to take the law forward in the future. According to a statement from Meta issued by spokesperson Andy Stone, Facebook will remove its News page after the new Journalism Bill in Congress is passed. According to the statement, the company will not comply with or subject to the "government-mandated discussions that unfairly dismiss whatever value we bring to news outlets through increased traffic and subscriptions." Meta also clarified that "publishers and broadcasters place their content on our platform because it enhances their financial line - not the other way around," not the other way around. To remove news from Facebook, Meta will do so if the US Congress passes a media bill. S.673, also known as the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act of 2022, is a measure that the US Congress is attempting to push through to allow media companies and publishers more authority to promote their content online. It implies that these news organizations have more negotiation power with online content providers like Alphabet Inc., Meta, and other businesses.
