The company is working on AI training chips to realize its dream of rolling out an AI chatbot as sophisticated as GPT-4. The company reportedly envisions to start training the new large language model early in 2024, as the Facebook parent company Meta intends it be available next year. Also, the company deems it to be multiple times more powerful than its open-source AI language model llama 2, which was launched in July.  The Wall Street Journal further wrote that Meta has been purchasing abundant Nvidia H100 AI-training chips and propping up its infrastructure in order to mitigate its reliance on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to train the new chatbot. Earlier this year the company purportedly built a team to create a new model, while intending to step up the formation of AI tools that can precisely emulate human expressions. It also faces heavy competition in the generative AI space. OpenAI said in April that it wasn’t training a GPT-5 and “won’t for some time,” but Apple has reportedly been dumping millions of dollars daily into its own “Ajax” AI model that it apparently thinks is more powerful than even GPT-4.
