After receiving several user complaints, Microsoft is discontinuing SwiftKey support on iOS devices and removing it from the Apple Store on October 5. "As of October 5, support for SwiftKey iOS will end and it will be delisted from the Apple App Store," said Chris Wolfe, SwiftKey's director of product management. "Microsoft will continue support for SwiftKey Android as well as the underlying technology that powers the Windows touch keyboard. For those customers who have SwiftKey installed on iOS, it will continue to work until it is manually uninstalled, or a user gets a new device." "We are ending support for Microsoft SwiftKey iOS. Thank you for being a user of our product," Microsoft said in an update. Microsoft Says SwiftKey Won’t Be Available for Ios Users From Oct 5 However, once users uninstall SwiftKey or change devices, they will be unable to download it again because it will no longer be available on Apple's app store. According to reports, SwiftKey for Android has been downloaded more than 500 million times. It is also available for iPhone users who want to install the swipe keyboard on their own devices. SwiftKey's most recent Android update, released in May, made it easier to delete text and added the option to disable automatic spaces after punctuation. In 2016, Microsoft reportedly paid $250 million for the SwiftKey platform, which was already one of the most popular keyboard apps on iOS and Android. Microsoft Says SwiftKey Won’t Be Available for iOS Users From Oct 5 SwiftKey debuted on Android in 2010 and on iOS in 2014. Third-party keyboard support in iOS was first introduced in iOS 8 in 2014. Apple still places limitations on where these keyboards can and cannot be used—they can't be used to type passwords or passcodes, and they can be disabled on phones that are locked down with mobile device management (MDM) software. In recent years, Apple has added some of the most popular third-party keyboard features, such as searchable emoji and swiping-to-type, to the built-in iOS keyboard.
