(Image credit- The Economic Times) Three years since its debut, Microsoft is ending its journey for the WordPad tool. The popular text editor, WordPad tool will not get any new updates due to the company shifting its attention away and discontinuing its operations. The WordPad tool will supposedly be removed from the current Windows platform, according to the report. This comes as the company formally stated that, after decades, it would stop providing support for this tool. When it comes to upcoming releases of its operating system, Microsoft emphasizes that WordPad won't work because it has decided not to continue developing its current software. Microsoft WordPad's  Memory Lane

Microsoft WordPad was first released for the previous operating system, Windows 95, about 30 years ago, as per reports. The tool reportedly lost its autonomous approach in 2020 and became only an optional feature.  However, the users had the option to deliberately choose to uninstall WordPad from their own systems. It was observed that this occurred at a time when Microsoft was attempting to get its users to access Microsoft Word and the original Windows NotePad as two additional options. This comes after the company explicitly advised using Windows Notepad and Microsoft Word. Moreover, the company also emphasized the benefits of using Microsoft Word for .doc and .rtf text documents. On the other side, Windows Notepad was praised for being excellent for plain text files like the standard .txt documents. Why Microsoft Word takes the place of the WordPad Tool?

It was noted that Microsoft gave no justification for its decision to discontinue WordPad. The software was previously a free feature that some users even used to replace Microsoft Word. For Microsoft Word, on the other hand, a subscription is necessary before the software can be downloaded. This is a component of the company's efforts to pitch users on its Microsoft Office tools, which also include software like Microsoft PowerPoint and similar ones. Although WordPad was said to just have minimal capability compared to the Microsoft Word alternative, the software lacks any necessary features, such as spellcheck. Additionally, the company has released updated Notepad upgrades, another free tool. In addition, the company disclosed that some features and functionalities would be replaced with newer alternatives in the upcoming edition of Windows. Disabling Microsoft's voice-assistant program Cortana was one of the most notable moves the company implemented.
