Nearly 50% of the market for reconditioned smartphones is owned by Apple

The results also showed that shipments of reconditioned smartphones increased 5% globally from one year ago. Shipments of new phones, in contrast, decreased by 11.3% in 2022, according to the research firm IDC. Counterpoint claimed that China's 17% drop in refurbished smartphone sales, which was mostly brought on by a revival of the epidemic there and a new round of lockdowns that disrupted daily life, was what kept the overall total from rising. Best iPhone 2023: which Apple phone is for you? | TechRadar Photo Credit: TechRadar According to a press release from Counterpoint, "Apple's global volumes grew 16% year-over-year in 2022, taking its secondary market share to over 49%." The tech titan is also currently the brand with the fastest global growth in the used and refurbished markets. Glen Cardoza, a senior analyst at Counterpoint, pointed out that people are keeping their smartphones for longer, which means that the supply of refurbished handsets is still limited. In case you weren't aware, refurbished iPhones purchased from Apple's online shop include a brand-new battery, a new outer shell, recently updated parts (if necessary), and a one-year warranty. The devices are as expected completely cleaned and checked before shipping. Even better, new cables and accessories are included in the box when they are shipped out. Apple's website for refurbished phones (and other gear) is continuously updated because customers upgrade their devices frequently and many opt to trade in their current iPhone. The takeaway is that if you're looking for a refurbished iPhone, you can either use a tool like Refurb Tracker or RefurbMe that will alert you when a specific iPhone model lands in the refurbished store, though you'll still need to act quickly to get it before someone else, or you can visit the website frequently and then act quickly when a desired device appears. Several iPhone 12 Pro Max handsets with 512GB of storage are currently available for $1,009 on Apple's American online store for refurbished devices, representing a useful $290 savings. For 809 British pounds, the U.K. retailer provides a refurbished iPhone 13 Pro with 128GB of storage, saving the customer a respectable £140. Similar substantial reductions are offered on some of Samsung's premium Galaxy devices at its online store that sells reconditioned phones. Samsung also thoroughly inspects the gadget and adds brand-new components before selling it, much like Apple does.
