It took Nicki Minaj’s middle school teacher some time to grasp that her former student had achieved fame, despite the fact that her Barbz is now famous.
The 39-year-old Trinidadian musician posted a heartwarming live video of herself reuniting with her fifth-grade teacher, Liz Smith-Breslin, on Instagram on Wednesday. She also shared a precious vintage video of herself from school.
In the video, Liz talked about how the musician’s name change prevented her from realizing that Nicki was her student. As Nicki looked to fight back tears, Liz described how she eventually learned the truth.
In the first scene, little Nicki addressed the cameras and said, “Hello, my name is Onika Maraj, and I attend P.S. 45.” In order to aid those who are less fortunate than myself, I want to become a nurse when I grow up.As her teacher stated, “I did not realize that Nicki was Onika,” Nicki then posted the exchange she had with Liz on Instagram live.

The instructor continued by describing how she even had a glimpse of Niki onstage but failed to recognize her: “You came out and performed at a JAY-Z and Eminem event I attended with my sisters,” the fan wrote.Oh my God, she’s pretty fantastic, I thought. Nicki chuckled as she stated, “And we were dancing and singing – didn’t realize it was you.”
“Listen, Liz, E! True Hollywood Story keeps calling, you were Nicki Minaj’s favorite teacher,” they said, and I literally dropped the phone,” she recalled. “A week later, my former school, P.S. 45, phoned.”
The instructor then made a joke about searching through all of her old files in an effort to find pictures and videos of Nicki from school.
