The company behind the Nothing Phone, Nothing, has a surprise in store. A Nothing speaker is on the way, according to the most recent leaks making the rounds on the internet.
Kuba Wojciechowski, a tipster who has had success with gadget leaks in the past, provided 91Mobiles with what appears to be a promotional render. Like its Android smartphone sibling, the Nothing speaker appears to be boxy in design. A “red-accented” button on the side, which I would not be surprised if it were some action buttons to activate a digital assistant for smart home commands, is also present, along with buttons for volume and power control. Or maybe it is a quick mute button.
Speaker cutouts can also be seen on the front of the render. According to 91Mobiles, they can be used in place of tweeters and subwoofers. It is comparable to other smart speakers available on the market, such as the Apple HomePod, even though Nothing’s model resembles an amplifier more than a speaker. A scrolling LED window that is also visible might be a fun aesthetic addition to the alleged “Nothing” speaker. We can only speculate because there aren’t any technical details available.
On its Twitter feed this week, nothing has undoubtedly teased something. If you look at the monitor in the background of the first tweet, you’ll see an x-ray moving around on the screen as what appears to be a quality assurance worker tests the circuits on a device.
In a 2017 interview with CNBC, Nothing’s founder and former co-founder Carl Pei stated that the company intends to compete with Apple with its smartphone launch. That plan might include a super cool speaker that works with the super cool smartphone. Until an official announcement is made, we cannot guide you anymore.
