Olympus launched Thunderbeat open exemplary jaw type X surgical energy device used for open surgery in Japan.
Thunderbeat features a thermal shield designed for safety procedures. They plan to launch the energy device in the US, South Korea, and Europe by next month and later release it in other parts of the world.
Olympus Thunderbeat portfolio includes devices that have both ultrasonic and bipolar energy concurrently. It can be used in tissue management, like hemostatic cutting and dissection and laparoscopic and open surgeries.
The company states that this device removes the need for multiple instruments for the surgery resulting in efficiency and lesser operation time. In addition, the new device is designed for open surgical operations for delicate and refined tissue dissection in cases of thyroidectomy or radical neck dissection.
The thermal shield enhances the thermal profile on the surface to prevent heat damage, and the jaw maintains a curved end for accurate dissection and improved visibility.
Olympus stated, “Thunderbeat offers the output of both bipolar and ultrasonic energy, enabling various operations. It contributes to fast hemostatic cutting, easy dissection, and reliable vessel sealing and division. In addition, the separate bipolar function enables vessel sealing and spot coagulation without cutting when desired.”
Phil Roy, global VP and GM of Olympus’ surgical devices business unit, stated, “This latest addition to our differentiated Thunderbeat line of products continues to deliver on Olympus’ commitment to offering hospitals a full portfolio of Advanced Energy devices providing best-in-class functionality for numerous procedures and specialties in minimally invasive and open surgery.”
