The insider now claims that OnePlus is testing a periscope camera on a product related with a model number of "SM8650." The tipster, who correctly revealed Qualcomm's new Snapdragon naming scheme before to the chip designer's announcement in 2021, is also the source of the Snapdragon name leak. The rumored identifying code of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset turns out to be the latter. So let's total the hints. The aforementioned gadget will be made by OnePlus, have a periscope camera, and be powered by Qualcomm's 2024 top-of-the-line application processor. It's not difficult to deduce that Digital Chat Station is discussing the OnePlus 12 in its article. The tipster claims in a Weibo post that OnePlus and Realme, both of which fall under the control of the Chinese company BBK Electronics, are testing the use of periscope cameras on devices that will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. More optical zooming is possible with a periscope camera than you typically can with a smartphone-sized device. This is so that the focal length of the lens does not typically surpass the thickness of the phone. Also read : A New Periscope Zoom Lens for the Apple iPhone 15 Ultra, Made by LG? In contrast, a periscope camera's internal lens is folded up, and mirrored prisms are employed to help guide light from the lens to the image sensor. For instance, the OnePlus 11 offers 2x optical zoom even without a periscope camera. Users of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra's periscope camera can get up to 10x optical zoom, while users of the Pixel 7 Pro's periscope camera can get up to 5x optical zoom.
The OnePlus 12 is expected to be released early in 2024.
