Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint will be getting the new features which according to Microsoft help "you unleash creativity, unlock productivity, and uplevel abilities." Microsoft is inculcating artificial intelligence into its systems like a new sidebar in Microsoft Edge and Bing Talk AI and Office apps have AI capabilities which is not surprising. It will generate a text draft when prompted to the request with options to customize the tone setting. Microsoft’s execution can remove data from different files which is the key difference. For instance, when you ask to write a proposal for a project of two pages with the database and spreadsheet, you will be prompted to check by Word which is a lot like testing Google docs but most likely, other files are not referenced.   Copilot concentrates more on surveying and examining the data already present in spreadsheets rather than generating text. Microsoft stated, “It will reveal correlations, propose what-if scenarios, and suggest new formulas based on your questions—generating models based on your questions that help you explore your data without modifying it.” Having a helpful assistant could be useful as long as it does not snap, as learning Excel’s variety of formulas takes time to learn. Copilot in Microsoft Powerpoint helps your written documents in levels of presentation with sources and speaker notes or a template can be constructed when prompted. According to the announcements made, commands like, “Reformat these three bullets into three columns, each with a picture.” or “Create a five-slide presentation based on a Word document and include relevant stock photos,” can be used. With a prompt, you can generate emails from texts which can be longer or shorter, similar to Gmail which was announced by Google. Microsoft Teams also will be getting the Copilot feature soon which will brief you about the meeting if in case you missed. There will be a Business Chat tab in Teams somewhat like Bing Chat and can access data from your documents, emails, calendar, notes, contacts and presentations. As of now, there is no clarity on whether personal accounts can access Business Chat but if it ever comes up, it will most likely be renamed by Microsoft. A total number of 20 businesses are being tested with Microsoft 365 Copilot and in the coming months, will be available to more people but it is unclear if Microsoft accounts can access it. Even though the latest features are appealing, the question remains about its effectiveness and should it be used at all. As an AI may easily misinterpret the comments and create the wrong impression, we would not want it to attempt to summarize everything that we say in a meeting or over the course of several emails.
