Image : pokemongolive.com Unfunny names are nothing new to Nintendo fans. Sure, the Wii U didn't do a great job of defining the console for what it was, and the New 3DS XL and Switch Lite are hardly the most daring options available. The device unveiled at today's Pokémon Presents, the Pokémon GO Plus+, is the most innovative thing to happen in recent memory. Pokémon Day, which takes place on February 27, saw the launch of the Pokémon GO Plus+. February 27th was the day the first games were made available in Japan. The Pokémon Company usually delights ardent fans with new merchandise on this day. One of the newest releases on this day is Pokémon GO Plus+. This gadget appears to be primarily designed as a tie-in for the upcoming Pokémon Sleep app, which is a night-time tracker that records how well you sleep. The Plus lets the app know how well you slept that night by reporting when you first start to nod off and when you wake up. It goes without saying that the device depends on you pressing its button in order to detect either of these events. The Plus+ also "contains a Pikachu," looking for uses beyond "the button that you keep in your bed," who can sing you lullabies while you sleep (though with a vocabulary limited to the words "Pika" and "Pika-Pika," so don't go expecting any lyrical wizardry). Pikachu also "becomes friendlier as you get more sleep together." Similar to the first-generation Pokémon GO Plus wristband, the Pokémon GO Plus+ is operated by carrying the device around you rather than wearing it like a watch. It connects to Pokémon GO via your smartphone and uses Bluetooth LE to track your walking. The gadget can also automatically throw Pokéballs and spin PokéStops while you're out and about, just like the Poké Ball Plus and the original Pokémon GO Plus Bluetooth bracelet. The Pokémon GO Plus+ now has the capability to track your sleep by being tucked under your pillow. Even so, the Pokémon Sleep app—which was first teased in May 2019 and is expected to go live on Android and iOS this summer—is where actual sleep data is tracked.
