Despite the US's best efforts to punish Huawei for posing a threat to national security, Phone Arena reports that Huawei has finally been given the go-ahead to utilise 4G versions of Qualcomm's top Snapdragon CPUs. The top supplier of EUV lithography equipment at the moment is a Dutch company called ASML, but they are prohibited from selling equipment to China. Now that Huawei has a patent, it may someday allow China's SMIC to compete against TSMC and Samsung Foundry. SMIC is reportedly capable of manufacturing 7nm chips for bitcoin mining but is only able to create 14nm process nodes for smartphone chips at the moment. Huawei keeps innovating despite US sanctions that restrict its access to the US market. According to a reports, Huawei will make more money from royalties related to patents than it will by licencing the rights of other companies. It must accomplish this while arguing with the US government over whether or not its products pose a threat to national security. But as the business continues to innovate, it is beginning to establish itself as a major player in the smartphone industry.
