Protect Your Password Using Microsoft’s New Knack

We all know that passwords need to be protected with utmost importance as the sites and systems we use have become more like a digital locker. We have data stored here, including sensitive content, financial info, etc. Microsoft is going the extra mile to keep our data safe by rolling out a new feature to keep us safe. Catfishing Nowadays, catfishing has become a widespread way to get through to vulnerable people who will reveal all their information, including the password. In addition, hackers are getting well versed in fooling people with online activities. Use Different Passwords The baddies create websites that look similar to the ones we use regularly, and chances are that we log in and get duped. In another case, if we are attentive enough, understand the perils, and do not log in but enter the password, the hackers are so good at their jobs that they can steal them. And the more significant issue is using the same password for Instagram and logging into your system, which they can misuse. Microsoft Protect your Password Password Storage If you store your passwords in Excel or Word, you are vulnerable. Make a habit of keeping the password in the sources that are password protected or encrypted rather than the one which is easy to access. It is not just personal privacy that is breached, but companies too have encountered these issues due to the passwords needing to be up to the mark or getting leaked. Sometimes, single system access is enough to get through the whole domain. Microsoft’s Windows 11 Update The Windows 11 update released last week is powerful enough to keep your system’s password safe. An alert comes up when you use the Windows password to another website with a thought to make you aware of not using the same password on any other site. The hackers will know your password if you try logging into a suspicious site. However, even an authentic website can leak the password. In addition, you receive a warning when you try to enter the password in an unsafe storage space. Microsoft Protect your Password As there is no protection in apps and Notepad, Microsoft is trying to keep people away from storing their passwords here, unlike the actual password manager. Simple Way to Authorise Microsoft’s Password Protection Of note is that the new password protection features are not set in default mode but are available in Settings. For this feature, log into your system using a Windows password instead of Windows Hello. Do not use a PIN to log into the system as they do not work, so put it off instead:
  • Start
  • Settings
  • Accounts
  • Sign-In Options
  • Disable Windows Hello
  • Remove
In the next step:
  • Start Menu
  • Settings
  • Privacy & Security
  • Windows Security
  • App and browser control
  • Reputation-based protection
  • Click Phishing Protection
You are a lot safer once the feature is enabled. There are other options you need to turn on, Warn Me About Unsafe Password Storage and Warn Me About Password Reuse. Once done, you will be notified when you use the password on unsafe sites.
