Research Says YouTube Videos Are Used To Spread Malware

Kaspersky cybersecurity specialists discovered new malware that connects into infected individuals' YouTube accounts and uploads a video to their channel, which disseminates RedLine Infostealer. A victim, ideally a PC gamer, stumbles onto a YouTube video with cracks or cheats for one of their favourite titles, such as FIFA, Final Fantasy, Forza Horizon, Lego Star Wars, or Spider-Man. Links that appear to carry those cracks and cheats but actually host a variety of infections are included in the description of the movie. One of the most common information thieves nowadays, able to steal users' instant message conversations, cryptocurrency wallets, cookies, credit card information, and passwords stored in their browsers. The bundle also contains a cryptojacker, or cryptocurrency miner, which makes advantage of the exploited endpoint's processing capacity to mine a particular cryptocurrency for the attackers. Most gamers typically have the massive GPU power needed for cryptocurrency mining. But what's most intriguing is that the bundle contains three malicious executables that spread themselves. "MakiseKurisu.exe," "download.exe," and "upload.exe" are the names of these. An information thief called MakiseKurisu takes browser cookies and stores them locally. After utilising cookies to log in, download.exe would take the bogus crack movie from a GitHub repository and pass it on to upload.exe, which would publish it to the victim's YouTube account. The malicious video may remain on the victim's YouTube channel for a long time before being removed if they aren't frequent YouTube users or have their notifications turned off.
