Samsung Bixby Will Let You Use Your Voice to Build an AI Answering Machine, But There's a Catch

A new feature of Samsung Bixby on smartphones enables users to answer calls and converse with coworkers, friends, or family members without speaking. This is due to the One UI 5's most recent release, which also enhances the "Text Call" feature of Samsung handsets' Bixby AI assistant. Like Pixel, it focuses on the "Type to Talk" feature, which enables a system-generated voice to speak on the user's behalf. The renowned South Korean tech company explained in their most recent news release that the One UI 5 interface's most recent iteration includes major improvements to Bixby. Customers who have the most recent versions of the user interface and operating system (OS) can set this up, requiring them to record their voices for the AI to remember and use as a reference in the future. If a Samsung owner chooses not to talk, they can still communicate with the other party by entering the message they want to convey to them instead of speaking. The business initially made this known when the One UI 5 was unveiled the previous year. The limitation of this AI answering machine's availability, which currently only supports the Korean language, is the catch to Bixby's Text Call feature. According to Samsung, this speech generator will not just be accessible through the call feature but also for other apps and experiences. In place of Google's "Google Assistant," which is present on Android-powered devices, Samsung went on to design a voice assistant for its smartphones. In the beginning, Samsung developed two AI assistants to help the globe, focusing on Kestra, a female version, and Bixby, a male version, both of which made their debut in 2016. In the end, Samsung decided to go with Bixby because of all the voice assistant features it offers to its users, making it a direct rival to Apple's Siri, which at the time was among the most well-known. Yet, according to MKBHD's test, Google Assistant is currently among the most sophisticated and responsive voice assistants, with Alexa coming in last and Siri and Bixby occupying the middle positions. Yet Samsung makes Bixby the star of One UI 5, which includes a currently-restricted Text Call capability to speak for the user.
