Some of Google’s Workspace apps will soon get a new feature that will make it easier for users to find frequently used tools without having to dig through numerous menus and toolbars. Beginning today, the “enhanced tool finder” will be available in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. It will take the form of a search bar at the top-left of the app’s standard toolbar, denoted by a magnifying glass symbol and the word “Menus.”
With the current Material Design 3 update, the search bar has a pill-shaped appearance. Depending on which Google Workspace app you’re using, it will automatically provide suggestions for frequently used actions, such as “Page setup” in Docs, “Insert rows/columns” in Sheets, and “Edit theme” in Slides. Users can also enter a description or search for specific tools by name. For instance, the Activity dashboard will be displayed when you search for “who last viewed this document.”
