The phone is part and parcel of our existence, and no way we will leave it alone even when we go to sleep, but we should not. According to a survey, most people have the habit of keeping the phone beside them or below the pillow. People who answered in negative mode, too, stated that they keep it on the phone stand or beside the bed. Therefore, keeping the phone near you while sleeping is not good. The research shows the phone is the culprit in you not falling asleep, drowsiness during the day, sleeping disorders, etc. About 20 studies show that the phone should not be accessible to you at night as it will not let you have a sound sleep or may result in sleeping for a shorter duration. Sleeping With Your Phone The above results were found even without the person using the phone in the bed; just the proximity to the phone made an impact. Sleep is a significant way for people to rejuvenate themselves from events. Children are the most vulnerable, and it may affect their bio-psychosocial growth. Preteens who are entirely unaware and new to technology are the worst hit. They lose their precious hours of sleep. Adding to this is the easy access to social media, which is a bad influence. Physical activity has been replaced with internet browsing, which results in obesity, depression, mood swings, and whatnot; this affects the academic side. How many of us wake up checking on our phones and, while sleeping, follow the same ritual?  The answer is “Many.” Sleeping With Your Phone What started as a way to stay connected and ease of working has become an addiction. The kids are innocent and do not understand the hazards, but what about the grownups? Is it not true that children lead by example? In another study, in people around 40, bedtime mobile usage resulted in weariness and unwillingness to get out of bed and shorter sleeping periods in 60-year-olds. Ways Of De-Addiction Keeping these issues in mind, some companies are coming up with steps to counter smartphone addiction. A study conducted on 167 participants with the iPhone night shift mode did not resolve the issue. Staying away from using the phone at night helped the sleep quality better than the night shift mode on iPhone. Seeing the result from the iPhone, it does not seem Samsung’s bedtime mode would be beneficial. Sleeping With Your Phone How Is Phone Responsible For Sleeplessness The blue light displayed on the mobile phone delays melatonin release, which is the hormone that regulates sleep; the blue light is partially disrupting your sleep. The software and apps are built to grab your attention and hold it for a long time. The notification sound alerts us to check our phones, so make sure to mute them while going to bed. The effects of phone radiation go beyond sleep disturbance. Research is being conducted on whether or not radiation affects our health. Do not despair; as the saying goes,” there is light at the end of the tunnel.” The heart balm is that you can revive yourself within a month. Reducing screen time before sleep improves and increases sleep. Along with rest, there are other benefits: you are more optimistic, your heart rate improves, you stop overthinking, etc. After all, sleep is an essential aspect of well-being. So do give yourself a chance towards well-being and enjoy the unlimited benefits!
