The new 14-inch MacBook Pro has been disassembled by iFixit. While the new
MacBook Pro 14 looks identical to its predecessor, there have been significant internal modifications, including the use of a smaller heatsink, as discovered by
iFixit.
We talked about how this year's MacBook Pro 14 comes with slower 512 GB SSDs a few days ago. Despite the lack of external modifications, it turns out that Apple has also made some internal adjustments that are not listed on its website. For comparison, the
M2 Pro and M2 Max give the
MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 Thunderbolt 4 and WiFi 6E connectivity in addition to an hour longer battery life.

When iFixit disassembled the MacBook Pro 14, it found that Apple had changed the heatsink from the model with the same name from 2021. In particular, Apple gives M2 Pro models smaller heatsinks than M1 Pro models. Theoretically, this adjustment shouldn't cause any problems, especially in light of the M2 Pro's two extra efficiency cores compared to its predecessor.
While this is supported by our review of the most recent MacBook Pro 14, we also pointed out that Apple throttles the M2 Pro under sustained stress. When using the CPU and GPU of the SoC at the same time, the new model operates a little bit hotter. too. The most recent 14-inch MacBook Pro receives a 5-out-of-10 rating from iFixit for repairability.

On the one hand, because the majority of components are modular, repairs ought to be less expensive. On the other side, repairs are frequently time-consuming due to the quantity of screws and glue utilized. Even worse, Apple hides some hardware repairs, including battery replacements, behind proprietary configuration tools.
