At the Tesla Gigafactory Plant in Buffalo, New York, union activists assert that the business fired scores of employees on Wednesday, February 15. This supposedly occurred just one day after hearing the news that workers had begun a union drive. Around a thousand employees at Tesla's Gigafactory in New York, where data is annotated for the company's Autopilot and autonomous driving programs, have announced their willingness to organize a union. Other reports claim that the campaign was started by data labelers who seek better pay, employment stability, and less workplace monitoring. The campaign is supported by Workers United, a well-known organization that has unionized workers at numerous Starbucks locations. Following the start of the unionization effort on Tuesday, February 14, the Workers Union filed a complaint with the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) saying that Tesla had fired hundreds of employees at the site. Those participating in the unionization effort were among those fired. According to a Bloomberg story, the union asked the NLRB to ask a federal judge for an injunction to prevent Tesla's illegal conduct from permanently harming employee rights. In response to the abrupt firing, Workers United activist Jaz Brisack, who is supporting the Tesla union drive at Giga New York, made a statement. The NLRB found that Tesla had violated labor laws by firing a worker for what the corporation said was union support in March 2021, when CEO Elon Musk tweeted that unionized workers would lose their stock options as part of their incentive package.
