When it comes to car rivalries, one of the most famous is the JDM Vs. Muscle car debate. Made famous by the final drag race in the first Fast And The Furious film, Paul Walker's Toyota Supra Challenged Vin Diesel's 1970 Dodge Charger R/T in the 1/4 mile to see who was the best. Since then, automotive enthusiasts have wanted to know if Japan's most OK can take on quality American muscle. Whether you're a fan of JDM or muscle cars, Hoonigan's latest video has a little for everyone. They put a newer generation Honda Civic Type R against a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, making for a drag race battle. JDM Versus Classic American Muscle Starting on Hoonigan's Honda Vs. Haters series, the two cars get a quick comparison. When looking at these two vehicles, they could not be more different. The Honda Civic Type R is an FK8 (for all you Honda fans) and makes a lot more power than the stock 306 hp from its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. 550-HP Honda Civic Moving on to the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, the owner replaced the stock engine with a newer 6.2-liter LS3 V8 out of a C6 Chevrolet Corvette. Not only that, but a massive supercharger helps the motor make about 500 hp. Power goes to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission. Just looking at the numbers alone, The Honda Civic has a clear advantage with more power and less weight. Hoonigan begins talking to Beto, who is the owner of the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z28. You may recognize him if you've watched other Hoonigan episodes. While Beto says the car makes 500 hp, the guys are not buying it and think it makes closer to 750 hp. 550-HP Honda Civic Moving on to the race, the Camaro quickly pulls away from the Honda. The second race fairs better for the Civic, with the JDM barely winning. The Hoonigan guys added a passenger to the Camaro, which helped a bit. At the final race, the Camaro pulls away once again. Finally, however, the Civic starts to build momentum. But, unfortunately, it wasn't enough to win the race. Instead, it shows that the Honda Civic is much better at higher speeds while the Camaro truly shines from a dig.
