There is no point in buying the RTX 4080 from scalpers

Today's news is favorable for the majority of us, but not for the scalpers. It's usually mayhem when Nvidia releases a new graphics card, and the GPU goes out of stock for some time after the initial release date. That is, at least in part, the fault of scalpers, who buy out the GPUs and then sell them back into the open market at a premium. Both the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080 experienced this. The RTX 4080 doesn't appear to be as popular a choice, though, as the Nvidia flagship. According to eBay sales data, scalpers may really be having trouble turning a profit on the new GPU, and the GPU market as a whole may be a contributing factor. Just last week, Nvidia introduced the RTX 4080, and of course, both regular consumers and scalpers were prepared to purchase the GPU as soon as it became available. However, a new Nvidia GPU will frequently have exorbitant costs and limited availability when it first launches. This time around, online merchants like Newegg and Amazon have the GPU in stock. RTX 4080 The costs vary depending on the model; there are some outlandish possibilities costing $2,400 and upwards, but there are other cards close to MSRP that are accessible from reputable merchants as opposed to scalpers. Scalpers will undoubtedly suffer as a result of this alleged drop in demand for the GPU, since they frequently profit from consumers' eagerness to purchase new GPUs without having to wait for restocks. Tom's Hardware investigated eBay sales statistics. The platform is a scalper's preferred choice, and although these statistics don't give us the complete picture, they nevertheless say a lot about the level of hype surrounding the RTX 4080. The RTX 4080 is not selling well at all on eBay, especially when compared to the RTX 4090, the data indicates. Only eight RTX 4080s are sold daily in the United States, outpacing the flagship by 3.4 to 1. We may compare this week's sales to the first week of sales for the RTX 4090, which sold about 64 units each day in that period. An RTX 4080 sold on eBay often costs about 30% more than the suggested retail price. In comparison, within the first week of sales, the RTX 4090's price soared to 54% above MSRP. Right now, the RTX 4080 isn't generating much revenue for scalpers. nvidia-to-reimburse-repackaging-costs-for-board-partners-following-rtx-4080-12-gb-unlaunch \Compared to its younger sister, the RTX 4090 is performing better. Both cards were pricey (and possibly overpriced) from the start, but considering the RTX 4080's pricing, the RTX 4090 may be seen as a better option, despite its higher price. If anything, the RTX 4080's release may be encouraging more people to purchase an RTX 4090, increasing rather than decreasing the flagship's sales. On the other hand, if you look at the most recent GPU sales data created by Jon Peddie Research, it appears as though consumers simply don't want to buy GPUs right now. This quarter, the GPU market as a whole experienced some significant losses. Desktop GPU sales fell by 15.43%. The shipment of notebook GPUs experienced the biggest decline of all; with a 30% loss, this was the largest decline since the 2009 recession. Despite the fact that this is poor news for the market as a whole, it's wonderful news for those of us who plan to construct or purchase a new PC shortly. Since there are currently plenty of GPUs available at affordable prices, the GPU shortage has long since passed. Regarding the current generation, AMD's upcoming RX 7900 XTX could upset the apple cart because Nvidia's GPUs are pricey right out of the gate.
