You may not even be aware of your smartphone addiction, especially in light of the fact that many people have been forced to stay at home because to the COVID-19 outbreak. According to studies, we use our smartphones 80–150 times on average per day, and excessive use can have negative effects.
Here are some strategies for reducing your smartphone addiction so that you may limit usage and organize your life again:
1. Save Your Time
There are certain drawbacks to always being available to your friends and coworkers, including the fact that you hardly ever have time for yourself or other work. Reduce your smartphone usage gradually if you want to respect and safeguard your personal time. I usually let people know I'm unavailable by keeping my phone's "Do Not Disturb" setting on at specific times. Only favorites from my connections, including my boss and family, can pass through me. Also, you can set a daily time when your smartphone will be totally turned off.
2. Activate Grayscale Into Your Phone
Humans have been proven to associate emotions with certain colors, so anytime a notice appears, you could be compelled to see what it's about. Your desire to check notifications and apps will decrease if you make your phone into a black and white canvas. Even some phones allow you to schedule the automatic conversion of your phone to grayscale. This works best when you're getting ready for bed or attempting to get to sleep.
3. Reduce Your Usage
You can now track your smartphone usage in some way on both an iPhone and an Android device, and it will tell you just how long you've been using it. Additionally, it displays the apps you've been using most frequently and even allows you to set downtime. Only the apps you whitelist will be usable during this period, and all other apps will be greyed out. It is a fantastic strategy to stop yourself from using addicting applications and games like Instagram and Facebook. This feature is typically located in your smartphone's "screen time" settings.
4. Turn Off Notifications From Unnecessary Apps
You need to disable notifications from unused programs unless you require real-time communication with friends, family, or colleagues. Every program tries to get your attention, and a common way it does this is by sending you frequent notifications. While social media apps provide you updates about individuals, which you can always check out later, other games deliver notifications to entice you to spend money. You may even completely remove all social media apps from your phone and only check your laptop or desktop for updates. Your distant friends and family's regular updates can be incredibly annoying and eventually lead you to scroll for more stuff.
5. Try Doing Other Things You Enjoy
You need to start spending less time on your phone and more time reading, playing board games, watching movies, or taking walks with your dog. Whatever you choose to do, having a smartphone nearby will always make it less enjoyable. Put your phone on "Do Not Disturb" the next time you are playing a game or watching your favorite TV show; leave it alone and avoid checking your notifications. You won't be checking your phone every time a notification comes in, which is a wonderful way to cut down on the time you spend using it while doing anything else.
