This Device Might Transform Your M1 Mac into A Productivity Monster

You may now add a few additional screens to an M1 or M2 Mac if you currently possess one. Up to four additional external monitors may be added with a new USB-C dock, which is much more than the Apple chip can handle by default. But having that many screens have a cost; it might not be ideal for all types of work or leisure. One to two external screens can be supported by the Apple M1 processor by default. Only one display may be connected to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air's USB-C connector. One monitor can be connected to the Mac mini through USB-C and one via HDMI. For the majority of users, that would be sufficient, but for those that require more, Plugable has a fun device available – with a few restrictions. Next, a direct connection between the monitors and dock is made. The displays all top out at 1,920 x 1,080 and 60Hz, meaning a standard resolution and a normal refresh rate without any bells and whistles, so forget about using any fancy monitors for this. The dock costs $120 and is offered on Amazon as of this writing. For the chance to make your Mac a fantastic productivity tool, it's not much, but that's all the dock will be useful for. If you frequently deal with spreadsheets or papers, you could find this device to be quite useful. It will perform exceptionally well when combined with the multitasking capabilities of the M1 and M2 CPUs. On the other hand, depending on your workloads, the quality of the monitors may slow you down if you use your Mac for creative work or gaming. According to Plugable, the new dock can be used with Windows computers as well, and by using two adapters, you can add up to 8 more monitors. To run all those monitors smoothly, you'll need a powerful computer, though. Overall, the device works with Windows 10 and Windows 11 as well as macOS 11 and later.
