A 22-year-old guy was killed in a shooting on Thursday in the vicinity of Times Square. Soon after 5:30 o'clock, police were called to a call near the well-known tourist attraction on 44th Street and 8th Avenue. According to a spokeswoman of the New York Police Department, upon the arrival of the police, a man was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. Emergency personnel attempted to revive him on the spot but were unsuccessful, so he was taken to Mount Sinai West where he was formally pronounced dead. Furthermore, the NYPD has not made any arrests in connection with the incident, and the case is still open. Additionally, a single gunshot was heard before customers started fleeing from a neighboring Shake Shack, according to a bouncer for a club close to the business sector who spoke with the New York Times on Thursday. One witness said, "There were two uniform policemen… in front of the turnstiles when you come out and I shouted for them to come out." Moreover, the man claimed he heard the gunfire as he exited the metro station. Times Square is still one of the busiest areas in New York City. Additionally, the business sector claims on its website that the area sees up to 360,000 pedestrians per day, despite the fact that foot traffic in the area has fallen since the COVID-19 outbreak. Lastly, on its busiest days, Times Square can have up to 450,000 pedestrians.
