According to reports, a new electric battery plant planned for development in Teesside might help the UK reduce its reliance on China and give the market for electric vehicles a big boost. According to an article on Express.co.uk, Altilium Metals, a sustainable technology company with headquarters in the UK, unveiled preliminary plans for a new recycling facility in the UK earlier this month to handle dead batteries from electric vehicles (EVs). The company stated that as EV demand grows, this site would help lower the cost of importing massive quantities of minerals necessary for the energy revolution. This plant offers access to inexpensive battery minerals, which have the potential to significantly lower the cost of EVs in the United Kingdom. EV battery Several European and other nations are considering outlawing the sale of new gasoline and diesel automobiles as part of the global effort to reach net zero. As a result, EVs are becoming more popular all over the world. Also Read: Why Chinese CCTV Cameras on UK Sites Are Now Banned? Altium's chief operating officer, Christian Marston, recently voiced concern over the rising price of batteries as a result of a rise in the prices of rare earth elements.  To Express.co.uk, he said: "I estimate that cobalt and nickel have increased by four times since 2021, while lithium has increased by nine times.  The demand for batteries for the EV revolution is one factor driving this, but another is that the conflict in Ukraine has had an impact on nickel prices because Russia is a major producer of the metal." By recycling them from batteries now in use in the UK, the plant might be able to lower the high cost of importing these components. Marston emphasized the significant potential of the site to increase energy security. This is especially pertinent considering China's dominance in the global supply chain for essential minerals.
