US Rapper Coolio Dies at 59

The 59-year-old US rapper Coolio, best known for the classic song Gangsta's Paradise, has passed away. Jarez Posey, Coolio's longtime manager, told US media the musician was discovered unconscious on the toilet floor of a friend's home in Los Angeles. Furthermore, the cause of his death on Wednesday is still under investigation. Nevertheless, Mr. Posey informed TMZ, who broke the news, that paramedics thought Coolio likely had a cardiac arrest.

A Brief Story of Coolio's Success

Coolio, real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr., began recording music in the 1980s. But he truly established his place in hip hop history after he released Gangsta's Paradise in 1995. He received a Grammy for that song, which was featured on the soundtrack for the Michelle Pfeiffer-starring film Dangerous Minds. The artist's official website also shows that the melancholy song has surpassed one billion Spotify streams. US Rapper Coolio Moreover, Coolio recorded eight studio albums throughout a four-decade career. In addition, he took home three MTV Video Music Awards and an American Music Award. Besides Gangsta's Paradise, Fantastic Voyage, Rollin' With My Homies, 1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New), and Too Hot were some of his other top successes. Up until the time of his passing, Coolio was still performing. He had a show in Texas while on tour with other 90s musicians like Vanilla Ice and Young MC only a few days prior.

Other Artists' Reactions

Vanilla Ice posted on Twitter, "I'm freaking out. I just heard my good friend Coolio passed away." In his own homage, Snoop Dogg referenced Coolio's world-famous song, writing: "Gangstas paradise. R I P." He also posted a photo of them posing on the set of the song Gangsta Walk's music video, a track they collaborated on in 2006. US Rapper Coolio "This is sad news. I witness first hand this man's grind to the top of the industry," said Ice Cube, a fellow rapper and actor. MC Hammer described Coolio as "one of the nicest dudes I've known," writing, "Good people. RIP Coolio," with a black and white picture of the rapper. He later posted a second picture of the pair together, along with Tupac and Snoop Dogg.
