Meta's developers appear to be constantly working on new WhatsApp features, whether it's blocking screenshots of view-once media or bringing multi-device support to Android tablets. We've recently been looking into efforts to make WhatsApp message editing a reality. While it is not yet ready for public use, we are learning more about how this feature will function.
WhatsApp beta 2.22.14 reveals that developers are working to make message editing a reality. After sharing, users will have up to 15 minutes to edit their messages.
Some questions remain, such as how edits will sync between devices and what will happen if the recipient's device is offline during the edit window.
While this is a step forward, we still don't know when WhatsApp's message editing feature will be available. Will it have a visible edit history like Twitter when it arrives? Is it possible that the implementation will function more like Slack's message editing feature? We're excited to find out, but until then, we'll have to endure the monotony of copying messages, deleting them for everyone, pasting them again, editing, and re-sending. Edits are desperately needed.
