WhatsApp's new call links are now widely available

WhatsApp appears to be one of those rare apps that knows exactly what it wants to be and has largely avoided unnecessary feature bloat. But, with pandemic-induced video conferencing becoming so popular, it was inevitable that more emphasis would be placed on its video capabilities. The service is now testing support for 32 video call participants, but it is not yet at the level of Google Meet or Zoom. While it works on that, the call invite link posting that we first heard about last month appears to be reaching a wider audience. Also Read: Why Is Your WhatsApp Not Working? It's been a few weeks, but the feature is finally available on our devices. In the WhatsApp Calls tab, the option to create a link for a new call is pinned above your call log. When you tap it, you can change the call type (voice or video), copy the invite link, forward it to contacts via WhatsApp, or share it via other apps. Be Aware. Fake WhatsApp Caught Stealing Users' Data Recipients can join the call by tapping the join call button associated with the link. The implementation appears to be a little wonky, such as how people you invite can join at any time, but WhatsApp won't alert you when someone does, but you aren't there — the concept of a waiting room, as found in other video conferencing apps, does not exist, and you must actively be on the call to see who is joining. Furthermore, the app assumes that all calls initiated via a link are group calls, even if you've only invited one other person. yowhatsapp Calls initiated or joined in this manner appear in your call log with a link icon next to the timestamp, making them easily instantly recognisable. If the call disconnects or you want to reconnect with the same group of people later, you can tap on the entries in your log to reconnect. We're not sure if the links you share have an expiration date.
