Jesus Salgado, 48, who is suspected of abducting a Sikh family, including an infant, is still in critical condition at the hospital after attempting suicide. There is no evidence to suggest that the act may have been a hate crime, but Warnke said he believes the motive may have been pecuniary. Additionally, he said Salgado might not have acted alone. However, he added, "We don't have any evidence to back that, we simply have the circumstances surrounding this. I strongly believe there was at least one other person involved." The FBI, the California Department of Justice, and other regional law enforcement organisations are assisting in the investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
