Who killed Billy London? Amateur detectives help solve the brutal 1990 murder mystery of gay porn star

A group of online investigators, including two LAPD officers, a documentary filmmaker, two podcast presenters, and a stay-at-home father are said to have contributed to the investigation into the savage 1990 slaying of homosexual porn star William Arnold Newton. Newton, also known as Billy London, was dubbed the "Black Dahlia" of the gay world. When filmmaker Rachel Mason was working on a documentary about the same cold case, Detective John Lamberti recently began looking into it. On their podcast, "The Dinner Party Show," hosts Eric Shaw Quinn and author Christopher Rice discussed it.

Who killed Billy London?

Prior to his head and feet being discovered in a garbage, London was last seen at The Rage Nightclub in West Hollywood. On October 29, 1990, these remains were found in Hollywood close to Santa Monica Boulevard. He was allegedly murdered by serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, according to many. Recent evidence, however, apparently ruled out the likelihood and asserted that London was killed by Darrell Lynn Madden, a former self-described white supremacist. Madden now identifies as Daralyn, an orthodox Jewish woman.

The Dahmer tip

The Los Angeles Times described the pivotal moment in the investigation, stating that it was when Rice received a tip from someone who claimed to have seen London leave a nightclub on the night he was slain with someone who resembled Jeffrey Dahmer that the case began to unravel. The Dahmer tip "motivated me to crack open the file and look at it a little more deeply," Lamberti said after quickly discovering the podcast. He then began coordinating the inquiry with Rice, Quinn, and London's family.
